La Verne residents interested in serving on the La Verne City Council will soon have an opportunity to file for office, with three council seats on the ballot in the Nov. 3 General Municipal Election.

The seats currently held by Steven Johnson (District 1), Meshal "Kash" Kashifalghita (District 3) and Tim Hepburn (District 4) are up for election. Council members serve four-year terms, and the City does not impose term limits. (Find your district using the map below.)

The nomination period opens July 13 and closes Aug. 7. Before candidates can receive nomination papers, they must schedule an appointment with the City Clerk's Office to verify they meet the legal qualifications to run.

During the appointment, City staff also explain what prospective candidates can expect once they officially enter the race.

"We like to give quite a few disclaimers, to be transparent about what's going to happen if you start running for office," said City Management Analyst Andrea Blockinger. "We like to remind them that as soon as they decide to submit their papers, everything they give us is public record."

The City has scheduled several events leading up to Election Day, including a candidate workshop on Aug. 13, and a candidate forum hosted by the La Verne Chamber of Commerce planned for late September or early October.

This will be the first City Council election held under the City's new election schedule, following officials' shift of municipal elections in 2025 to align with California's statewide general elections.
