Do students have the learning materials they need? What do the District’s latest campus inspections show? Those are two items worth watching when Bonita Unified’s school board meets Wednesday.
The agenda also includes a proposed increase in the spending limit for an existing career-education agreement, a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles and overnight trips for San Dimas High School and Lone Hill Middle School students.
Before the public meeting, the board’s closed session will cover the superintendent’s performance evaluation, anticipated litigation, personnel matters and labor negotiations. A report out of closed session is scheduled when open session begins.

Renewals for Board approval
Big Brothers Big Sisters agreement
The board will consider approving or ratifying an agreement with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles.

Agenda item 14.1.5
Professional service agreements: An estimated $313,500
The board will consider approving or ratifying authorization to enter into 10 professional service agreements with estimated amounts totaling $313,500.
The agreements cover campus repairs and maintenance, solar monitoring, event-management software and secure transportation of student activity funds. Notable items include:
- $87,000 for solar monitoring equipment and five years of monitoring services at five District locations.
- $46,500 for a change order to Bonita High School’s track replacement project, including surface-color changes and repairs to concrete and turf.
- $20,000 to replace the HVAC unit serving Ekstrand Elementary’s administration building.

📝 Discussion
Public hearing: Do students have enough instructional materials?
The board will hold a public hearing on whether every student in transitional kindergarten through 12th grade has sufficient textbooks or instructional materials consistent with state curriculum frameworks. A separate vote would adopt a resolution certifying compliance.
Why it matters: This is about students’ access to the tools they need to learn. California’s definition of sufficient materials includes access in class and at home; digital materials must also be accessible at home.
What to watch: The hearing and certification are separate agenda items. The proposed resolution is a determination the board is being asked to make Wednesday.
Agenda items 15.1.1–15.1.2 (p. 5)
First Reading of Board Policies
