La Verne's Kuns Park is in Transition: Slide Down, Upgrade Incoming

A reader asked. I looked into it. Here's what Kuns Park has in store—including a nearly $200k playground overhaul funded by Measure A.

The Kuns Park playground is open (minus the slide), upgrades are on the way, and the fountain fix is coming soon.

The park’s fountain is out of order for now. Public Works is waiting on a part, according to an email from Parks & Recreation Director Yvonne Duran. Repairs are expected within the next two to three weeks. The slide was removed due to damage and has been sectioned off, but the rest of the playground remains accessible.

The entire playground will eventually close when construction begins on a new play structure—but no timeline has been finalized yet. The project was presented to City Council in January, and new playground equipment was ordered shortly after, Duran said. The City is currently awaiting shipment, and an installation timeline will be set once delivery is scheduled. At its Jan. 20 meeting, the City Council approved a $196,684 contract to replace the more than 30-year-old playground with a new, ADA-compliant structure, including rubberized surfacing and shade.

The project is fully funded through Measure A dollars, with a total budget of about $198,000. Duran said she has ,"not seen any inquires or citizen requests regarding the playground or fountain at Kuns Park." But a reader reached out to ask me about it.
