When Shelby Welby stepped away from her career and into motherhood, life shifted towards a new rhythm. In the early years of caring for her little ones, she found herself searching for something that would quietly fill her cup. After realizing that caring for herself was just as important as caring for her family, she discovered floristry. What began as a simple hobby soon grew into something deeper—a source of purpose, tranquility, and creativity woven into the beautiful, busy days of raising littles.

“I found passion and serenity through the artistry of florals,” explained Welby. “They bring life, a sense of seasonality, yet stillness.”

Her affinity for flowers, she later discovered, is part of her heritage.

“Unknown to me, it runs in the family!” Welby said. “I have a timeless black and white photo of my Oma, processing flowers at a small floral boutique in San Clemente. This image truly solidified that my love for florals was more than a hobby; it was a calling. We’re also Dutch, home to the infamous tulip and one of my favorite flowers.”

Welby chose the business name “Life In Bloom” during a period of transition, aiming to reflect both her personal journey and her vision for her company’s growth.

“The name arose as our family planted roots in a new city and embarked on a transformative chapter. It became a reminder that growth—within ourselves, our family, and life as a whole—is always unfolding.”

Welby states that the natural surroundings of her new home are what she enjoys most about the region. “Purity is all around us, from the beach to the mountains, desert, and snow. I find organic beauty everywhere and strive to bring natural materials to life within my arrangements.”

Welby’s home-based floral boutique is a one-woman operation, built thoughtfully and intentionally. She designs each arrangement herself, balancing creativity with the practical demands of running a small business. “From original designs to content creation and finances, this business major does everything,” Welby said.

This local entrepreneur has cultivated relationships throughout the Inland Empire and is expanding through new collaborations and milestone projects. These include launching 'Baby In Bloom' Sessions and forming photography partnerships—what she describes as “daydreams coming to life.” She now works with photographers and studios, helping families celebrate real-time gender reveals, showcasing bloom bouquets, and designing coordinated baby showers.

While Life In Bloom continues to grow, Welby envisions strengthening her community ties through monthly subscription services, intimate parties, and large-scale events.

“I am the brain behind it all and love every aspect of running a wholesome, personal, and financially accessible floral boutique,” she said. “I would love to build a more robust subscription roster and book events as they organically arise through word of mouth.”

What began as a search for balance and social connection has blossomed into a business rooted in beauty and intention. For Welby, floristry is more than an arrangement—it’s connection, heritage, and healing. And her next chapter is just beginning to bloom.
