Happy Saturday, everyone. The weather continues to surprise, and dare I say, delight us? Today looks to be cloudy and even cooler, so grab that extra layer before you head out and about.

La Verne Mobility Device Rules Head to Council for First Reading May 4

La Verne City Council will take up a proposed update to the municipal code regulating the use of regulated mobility devices for its first reading at the May 4 meeting, marking the first formal step toward adopting clearer local rules for electric bicycles and similar devices.

Why it matters: The update would add a chapter to Title 10 of the La Verne Municipal Code. It is the City’s direct response to growing safety concerns, particularly around youth riders, modified or illegal motorized bikes, and acrobatic stunts.

The proposal builds on months of discussion, community complaints and stepped-up enforcement by the La Verne Police Department. Officers have focused patrols near schools and along common travel routes, combining education with citations for unsafe riding, lack of required equipment and operation of illegal motorized vehicles.

According to La Verne Sgt. Carlos Flores, about 15 citations tied to e-bikes and related illegal motorized bikes were issued between March 23 and April 23. There were also a few impounds.
