Police activity reported Friday afternoon near Fruit Street and Amherst Street in La Verne was prompted by a call of a possible burglary in progress, according to the La Verne Police Department.

Sgt. Mark Gutierrez said officers responded to a residence in the area and used specialized equipment and resources typical for that type of call to ensure the situation was handled safely. According to witnesses, the equipment appeared to include at least one SWAT vehicle, an ambulance, and several police cars.

After investigating, police determined the report was a false alarm. Gutierrez confirmed via email to La Verne Daily News that no burglary or other crime occurred.
