☕️ Grounds for excitement: Klatch Coffee is coming to La Verne

Every morning at Klatch Coffee begins with the same careful ritual—baristas “dialing in” espresso shots, adjusting grind size by the tiniest fraction, and tasting until the flavor is just right. All before the first customer arrives. That commitment to precision and consistency will soon come to La Verne, when Klatch opens a new take-away counter inside Sprouts Farmers Market at Foothill Boulevard and Wheeler Avenue on Nov. 29.

Barista Denise Spafford prepares an espresso shot under the watchful eye of Director of Coffee Culture Luis Miranda at Klatch Coffee inside Sprouts Farmers Market in Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday.

The partnership with Sprouts, says CEO Heather Perry, “allows us to bring the brand to where people are on a day-to-day basis.” For Klatch, known for its “from seed to cup” philosophy, that means aligning with a grocer that shares its focus on sustainability. “Sprouts customers are a good match for Klatch,” added Justin Christopher, the company’s manager of e-commerce and marketing. “There’s just a good alignment of mission and values.”

The family-owned business, founded in Rancho Cucamonga in 1993, will soon grow to 20 locations across Southern California, including La Verne, San Dimas and Glendora. The company currently employs about 200 people, with plans to nearly double that number by next year as new stores open. Their first San Diego location will open in 2026.

Barista Syl Corrales hands a drink to a customer at the new Klatch coffee counter inside Sprouts Farmers Market in Rancho Cucamonga. The location opened on Sunday.

The La Verne counter will serve some of Klatch’s most popular menu items, like the honey bacon biscuit and bacon avocado toast, alongside its signature coffee blends that have earned global acclaim, including Gear Patrol’s Top 25 Roasters in America in both 2019 and 2021.

Luis Miranda, director of coffee culture at Klatch says maintaining a consistent taste across the company’s locations takes a bit of sensory science.

“If you have a coffee that tastes way too intense to drink, you have to dial it back a little bit. If you have a coffee that tastes kind of weak, you have to bump up the amount of coffee,” Miranda said .

Each Klatch location dials in its espresso six to eight times a day, adjusting the grind and water ratios to ensure every shot meets the company’s standards.

“We want to make sure that the espresso tastes optimal all times of the day, and we dedicate a lot of resources to allow for that to happen,” Miranda said.

Klatch’s coffee is roasted at its Upland facility and distributed weekly to cafés to ensure freshness. “We never want coffee sitting around too long,” Miranda said. “For espresso, five to ten days after roasting is the sweet spot. For pour-over, seven to 14.”

That meticulous attention to quality and consistency actually begins with the beans. Miranda explained that Klatch’s blends—like the company’s five-bean house espresso—combine beans from South America, Central America and Asia. Blending allows for a more uniform and consistent flavor year after year.

Christopher said guests who visit the new La Verne location can expect that same focus on quality. “We take pride in quality and consistency, so although the La Verne location will be brand new to our guests, it’s using baristas and proven recipes that line up with expectations we’ve established at other locations over the past decades,” he said.
