Hello neighbors!

This week I found myself spending a surprising amount of time thinking about things most people probably don't think about too much: reserve funds, budget processes and the cost of community events.

In other words, I've been living my best local-news life!

The good news is that I've done the digging so you don't have to. In this week's Civic Brief, you'll find updates on the city's budget, proposed mobility rules and other decisions that could affect life in La Verne in the months and years ahead.

Thank you for continuing to read and share La Verne Daily News.

Juvenile E-Bike Rider Suffers Broken Arm in La Verne Crash

A juvenile riding an e-bike suffered a broken arm Friday afternoon in a solo traffic collision near Foothill Boulevard and Wheeler Avenue, according to the La Verne Police Department.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:37 p.m. May 29, Sgt. Devon Harden confirmed.

The juvenile rider was transported by the La Verne Fire Department to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment. According to the parent of a Ramona Middle School student who was at the scene after the accident, the rider was also a Ramona student and was wearing a full face helmet.

Police have not released additional details about how the crash occurred. Harden said the incident remains under investigation and the police report has not yet been completed.

No other injuries were reported.

At the May 18 meeting, La Verne City Council approved a first reading of a "mobility" ordinance, which adds new rules to La Verne's municipal code for the operation of electric bikes, electric scooters, and similar devices.

Council will vote to adopt the new ordinance at the June 1 City Council meeting. If adopted, the ordinance would take effect in 30 days.
